The task (continued)

Immediately they both leaned on a tree and began to study the map carefully and soon Chris decided that they had better have a sleep before going on their journey. Just then the sound of horse-men could be heard very near.

Quickly they hid behind a tree but to their amazement instead of seeing the Tishmarnian army, three centaurs galloped into view. One pointed out the marks of digging and said out loud:

Oh, Son of Adam who calleth thy self Oh Black Avenger, Oh Mighty One that seeketh the royal Prince of Tishma, Prince Sashtan, we have come to aid thee in thy search for thy stars sayeth that thou will succeed in thy task."

And after that Chris walked cautiously out from behind the tree and over to the centaur who said:

"Is it not true that the Son of Adam travels with a Daughter of Eve?" And then out walked Joan and [she] stood beside Chris.
