Another sign of the changing world on this page. Not only has British Rail long since ceased to be called British Rail (having been split up into a bewildering number of different track-owning and service operating companies) but the cross-Channel ferries they used to operate have, for many people, become obsolete, replaced by the joys of loading your car onto a Shuttle and travelling through the Channel Tunnel.
Of course, when I say "many people", I really mean "me".
Like Antony in this scene, I do get very sea-sick and - since our school did take us on a number of trips across the Channel during my teens - I can imagine the experience of leaning over the side of a ferry and waving goodbye to my breakfast was still very fresh in my memory when I wrote this!
