After all this time it's difficult to be sure but I believe the reference to a gear-stick (or, for any US readers, a stick-shift) as a "shivvying stick" might not be pure invention, included solely for the purpose of squeezing in one last film-related pun.
Like Bomber and his infamous corned beef dumplings, I have a sneaking suspicion that Lynne did actually use that term. Which, if she did, is kind of worrying really.
Anyway, that concludes this tale of high adventure in wildest Wales. How much of it really happened like this and how much of it is pure fabrication, I genuinely no longer know. If you ever happen to be in Wales, however, do look out for those bilingual "Caution" signs. After all, if you should encounter a gofal ... well, you might not get off as lightly as we did!
