Panel 2 is perhaps the most interesting panel on this page. Like the infamous middle panel on Page 11 of DajbDevil, it really is just a surreal interlude which has nothing to do with the story (such as it is!) The idea of one story intruding on another is hardly original (think of the end of Blazing Saddles, for example, where the action crashes from one film set to another) but I'm not sure I've ever seen it done in comics before. Perhaps the teenage me was ahead of his time!

(Of course, now I think of it, I'm not sure I've seen it done in a comic since, either, so perhaps it's just never been done because it doesn't work. That would make the teenage me not so much ahead of his time as just plain daft. My, how we've grown!)

I may be wrong but I think the reference to corned beef dumplings may be another line lifted from the real world of the school field trip. It may not be. But I do remember we did have to cook for ourselves and, for whatever reason, corned beef dumplings are something I can imagine Bomber wanting to cook. Weird that.
