This column was my first for Comic Avalanche.

Reading it again now, the sentence that has particular resonance for me is: "I would happily stand Alan Moore’s Watchmen and Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns side by side with any prose novel I’ve read."

At the time, I could hardly have imagined that only nine months later Time Magazine would include Watchmen in its list of the top 50 novels written since 1923.

Not the top 50 graphic novels ... the top 50 novels! That puts it up there with some real literary heavyweights, including Catch 22, Animal Farm and To Kill a Mockingbird.

It's nice when people agree with you!
