The ugly critter in Panels 1 and 2 here is a demon known as a Lure. This is what they look like when they're not impersonating someone else (like Becky's dead mother, for example!)

Starflare mentioned Lures (in passing!) back in Chapter 11. The other kind of spirit mentioned (a Guardian) does not appear in Shades. Sorry, demon lovers!

Anyway, of far more importance is the fact that this is the final page of Chapter 15 which means the next chapter is the final chapter of the book. As I'm sure I must have mentioned earlier, we do have a short epilogue after that (just to make sure we haven't left any loose ends trailing!) but Chapter 16 will be the last "proper", full-length story chapter.
