So many words, so little space!

As soon as I saw this page, the power of Nickel and Qoiri's artwork in the final panel was obvious. The trouble was, I had a lot of dialogue to squeeze into that panel!

In order to avoid obscuring the characters, I initially strung a series of dialogue balloons horizontally across the centre of the panel. That was okay but it meant that Bedlam and Thrawn were separated from Ryan, Doug and Boo below. Somehow, that robbed the panel of so much of its impact.

For the last couple of weeks I've been trimming lines of dialogue from that panel, and slowly managing to get rid of the balloons one at a time. Finally, I'd cut enough for the remaining dialogue to be shoe-horned into just two balloons, small enough to be squeezed in over to the right of the panel. The words no longer say everything I wanted them to but, in its own way, I think the picture says so much more!
