The design of Boo's "chariot" is one of the few examples of me allowing my imagination to over-rule my desire to keep things "real". I knew that, practically, Boo's car should look very ordinary in order to be able to drive unnoticed through the city. The idea of adding a couple of horses to the bonnet, however, was just so cool that I couldn't resist!

As with Frank's taxi, to help Harsho get the angles right, I bought a model car that I could photograph in different positions. It was only then that he told me how much he hated having to draw horses!

Luckily, being an avid Lord of the Rings fan, I had a metal miniature of Gandalf mounted on Shadowfax and I drew the front half of that figure (it was too small to photograph!) and sent my sketches off to Harsho in India, so that he could combine them with the car. And so the chariot was born!

The bridge on this page is Albert Bridge. Given that Boo's centre of operations is based in London's East End and that she's driving to the Shaman's "temple" in Salisbury, there is absolutely no need for her to be driving across Albert Bridge. I included it solely because, as London's bridges go, that's one of the nicest. So - after all my previous efforts to ground "Shades" in reality - I've blown it twice on this one page. Authors, eh?
