We don't have a lot on the backgrounds of the supporting characters in Shades. This page, giving us just a glimpse of how Starflower came to be recruited into the Shaman's disciples, is therefore something of a rarity. And, thanks to Nickel and Qoiri, it looks damn fine, too!

Back in the planning stages, Starflower didn't have much to do in the story after her appearance in Chapter 3 but, by the time I reached this point in the full script, I knew she had more to offer.

The explanation of how she came by her name is a pretty accurate description of my own thought processes when I was naming her. Starflare, on the other hand, was originally supposed to be called Starburst (until I remembered that was now the name of the sweets which, in my mis-spent youth, were called Opal Fruits!) Not being a follower of DC's Teen Titans, my second choice was Starfire. It was only when I discovered the animated TV series that I realised this name was already taken, too!
