When I designed the character of Boo, her sense of humour was very much a part of her from the beginning. It's a very dry, slyly teasing and yet also self-mocking sense of humour that is very, very British. When I wrote the script for this page, I knew this was exactly what she'd be saying in this situation and, as soon as I saw Harsho's artwork, I knew he'd captured it perfectly. But, since writing the script, I've come to like her sense of humour for another reason, too.
I've become aware of just how rare it is for a super heroine to have a sense of humour of any description these days! Take Wonder Woman, for example. As originally created by William Moulton Marston, she was a bright, breezy, even gleeful character. Now she frowns. She frowns because she finds it hard to be a diplomat; she frowns because she has to restrain her warrior instincts; and she frowns because she doesn't understand the ways of "men's world". In the glumness stakes, she's now second only to Batman!
