This page is typical of another technique I wanted to use as much as possible in "Shades".
Try as you might, there are times when you just have to let the characters talk exposition. Like Sunil comparing the Shaman to a kind of "super hero". But exposition is tricky. If you just have two characters talking, it can really bring the story to an abrupt halt. Alternatively, if you go down the Silver Age route, your characters can seem to spend all their time shouting at each other, fingers splayed and feet planted four feet apart as they yell the points that need exposition at each other.
I've used both methods in "Shades", of course, but I've tried to use this technique more - a simple scene in which the characters say what needs to be said but, at the same time, provide a degree of visual interest by engaging in some form of mundane, everyday activity. Like getting in a lift.
