Another page that stands witness to Harsho's ability to show us London as if he's lived here all his life! (And, no, to the best of my knowledge, he hasn't ever been here).
Of course, as luck would have it, during the years it's taken us to put this book together, the last of the familiar old "Routemaster" buses has finally been taken out of service. They do, however, still hold something of an iconic status, and although they are most commonly associated specifically with London, there is something quintessentially British about them. Perhaps, in its own small way, this book will help to keep their memory alive!
The discussion of super heroes living exclusively in the US is, of course, another of those "conventions" I wanted to dissect. That said, the idea that Britain might indeed have its own super heroes and that the world remained ignorant of their existence, simply because they chose to be a little "discreet" was certainly an idea that tickled my funny-bone!
