Here we have what is surely the guitar solo for any comic artist, the splash/credits page. I kept it very low key in the end to set the mood and quiet tone for this issue.

It’s one of the first things I produced using Photoshop and a graphics tablet. Until then I had been using Pantone markers for colour work. I’ve never looked back.

It’s always been my intention to produce both black and white and colour versions of The Lumbering Dead so this is a little taster for the colour version. I am something of a black and white purist but I also love a well considered colour job. And Issue 5 with it’s 80s, neon-soaked palette and flying zombie gore will be crying out for colour. The blood will be red. The moonboots will be purple.

I once nearly choked to death discussing fart sound effects in comics with Bill. He got quite animated over the use of bad ones and was keen to rant, “There is no way an anus could ever pronounce K’s or L’s!” He said that the best one he ever saw was “BRAMPT!” It immediately entered everyday conversation with the lads and I. "That was a real Brampt that one". Expect to see it frequently over this series.
