Well, there you have it - the last page of Chapter 8, the last page of what will be Volume 1 of the print version and, sadly, the last page by Harsho. And what a page to bow out on, eh?!

When I designed the overall look of Shades, I decided I wouldn't use splash pages (other than for the opening page of each chapter, obviously!) and this image didn't exist. Instead, the previous page was going to be the last and the final panel was going to be a close-up of Starflower's tear-streaked face as she says: "He's dying!"

When Harsho produced the rough layouts, however, it was clear that such a major event in the story needed something that would make a much bigger impact and, since it was going to be the last page in Volume 1, I decided to break my own rule and add this page.

As soon as I saw what Harsho had managed to do with it, I was sooo glad I did!
